Medal of Honor Citation – Extraordinary Heroism in Korea

On November 25-26, 1950, then-First Lieutenant Ralph Puckett Jr. led the 8th Army Ranger Company in an assault against heavily fortified enemy positions near Unsan, North Korea. Facing intense machine gun and mortar fire, he repeatedly exposed himself to direct enemy fire to direct his troops and call in artillery strikes. After capturing the objective, his unit endured relentless counterattacks from superior enemy forces throughout the night.

Despite being grievously wounded multiple times, Puckett refused evacuation and continued to lead his men, ensuring their effective defense. His unwavering determination and gallantry enabled the successful withdrawal of his remaining troops when they were ultimately overrun. His heroic leadership and selfless actions directly contributed to the survival of his soldiers and embodied the highest values of duty, courage, and sacrifice.

For his extraordinary valor, Puckett was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Joe Biden in 2021, making him one of the most celebrated military heroes of the modern era.
