Walter Craighead was the business manager of the Chicago Cubs during the late 1910s, overseeing the team’s financial operations. His role included managing payroll, as evidenced by his signature on numerous Cubs payroll checks from 1918. He was also responsible for ticket sales and logistics, notably announcing ticket details for the 1918 World Series, in which the Cubs faced the Boston Red Sox. Craighead played a vital behind-the-scenes role in maintaining the club’s financial stability during a period of wartime challenges and competitive baseball.
John O. Seys was a Chicago Cubs executive in the early 20th century, serving as the team’s secretary and later as vice president. Active in the organization from at least 1917 to the 1930s, he was responsible for handling financial and administrative duties, including signing payroll checks. In 1926, he was promoted to second vice president, reflecting his growing influence within the franchise. Seys played a key role in the Cubs’ front office during a period of success, including their National League pennants in 1929 and 1932. He remained with the team until his passing in 1938.
