Kirk Gibson is a former American professional baseball player and manager, best known for his dramatic and memorable moments in Major League Baseball (MLB). Born on May 28, 1957, in Pontiac, Michigan, Gibson was a multi-sport athlete in college, excelling in both football and baseball at Michigan State University.

Gibson played the majority of his MLB career as an outfielder for the Detroit Tigers and the Los Angeles Dodgers, with additional stints with the Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates. He is most famously remembered for his clutch performance in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. Despite being hobbled by injuries, Gibson hit a game-winning, pinch-hit home run for the Dodgers against the Oakland Athletics' closer, Dennis Eckersley, which is often cited as one of the greatest moments in World Series history.

Throughout his career, Gibson was known for his intense competitiveness, power-hitting, and leadership on the field. He was a two-time World Series champion, winning with the Tigers in 1984 and the Dodgers in 1988. Gibson was named the National League MVP in 1988 for his outstanding performance with the Dodgers that season.

After retiring as a player, Gibson transitioned to coaching and managing. He served as the manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2010 to 2014, leading the team to a National League West title in 2011. His legacy in baseball is marked by his toughness, clutch performances, and impact as both a player and manager.
