Aaron Ekblad was selected by the Florida Panthers with the first overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Ekblad had an impressive amateur career highlighted by him being selected first overall by the Barrie Colts in the 2011 OHL Priority Draft. In his first OHL season, Ekblad was the leading scorer amongst defensemen for Barrie. On July 2, 2016, Ekblad signed an eight-year, $60 million extension contract to remain a member of the Florida Panthers.
