From 1863 - 1935, National Bank Notes were issued by banks throughout the country and U.S. territories. National Bank notes were retired by the U.S. government in the 1930's during the great depression.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia is one of the twelve regional Reserve Banks. The Philadelphia Reserve serves the 3rd Federal Reserve District which covers eastern and central Pennsylvania, the nine southern counties of New Jersey, and Delaware.
