National Bank Notes were United States currency banknotes issued by the National Banks chartered by the U.S. Government. From 1863 - 1935, National Bank Notes were issued by banks throughout the country and U.S. territories. National Bank notes were retired by the U.S. government in the 1930's during the great depression.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland is one of the 12 Federal Banks of the United States and is responsible for the fourth District of the Federal Reserve System, which is composed of Ohio, western Pennsylvania, eastern Kentucky, and the northern panhandle of West Virginia. It also has branch offices in Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.
