The Lion Dollar coins issued by the Netherlands were well-known during their time in circulation, they were widely used for trade. The coin shown here is a 2017 restrike from the Royal Dutch Mint. Unlike the original, this coin is made of .999 fine silver and weighs 1 Troy oz. It features the same classic design that was seen on the original Lion Dollar from the 1600s. Mintage is limited to a maximum of 25,000 coins.

The obverse displays a Dutch knight in full armor. A shield with a lion can be seen just in front of him. The border of this highly detailed design is filled with inscriptions.

The reverse shows a large lion design, this is the same lion that was depicted on the shield seen on the obverse. The date is above the lion's head as it stands with its front paws in the air. The inscriptions on this side include the weight and purity.
