"A Day To Remember" 7" x 7" Record Album has been hand-signed in blue felt-tip pen by Mickey Mantle (D 1995, Yankees, HOF). Please note, record is included.
This record was given out on August 9, 1969, during Old Timers' Day at Yankee Stadium. June 8, 1969 was Declared Mickey Mantle Day by New York's Mayor Lindsey. The New York Yankees Retired the number 7 worn by Mickey Mantle as well. A Record of the ceremonies on that day, introductions of team mates, and milestones of Mantles career are included on the "A Day To Remember" Record. Frank Messer, Yankees broad caster, and master of ceremonies, introduced the "Voice of the Yankees" Mel Allen, who Introduced Mickey Mantle: “Ladies and gentlemen, A magnificent Yankee, the great number seven, Mickey Mantle.” A nine minute ovation followed by the crowd of 61,157, and had to be quieted to continue. “When I walked into this stadium 18 years ago,” Mantle said in his speech, “I felt much the same way I do right now. I don’t have words to describe how I felt then or how I feel now, but I’ll tell you one thing, baseball was real good to me and playing 18 years in Yankee Stadium is the best thing that could ever happen to a ballplayer.”
