The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, often shortened to Hamlet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1602.
Set in the Kingdom of Denmark, the play dramatizes the revenge Prince Hamlet is called to wreak upon his uncle, Claudius, by the ghost of Hamlet's father, King Hamlet. Claudius had murdered his own brother and seized the throne, also marrying his deceased brother's widow.
This rare piece is from a series from 1973. It is Dali's interpretation of Shakespeare's drama Hamlet. Dali paid homage to Shakespeare in several other works but this suite is considered to be his most impressive. Each print is hand signed and numbered by the artist. Artwork is in excellent condition. Certificate of Authenticity included.
The art is hand colored on an aquatint(engraving), finished with 24 carat gold dust to highlight the beautiful piece of art.
In “The ghost tells the story of the murder” the King’s Ghost appears to Hamlet describing the King’s murder. Dali created a complex, detailed work of art filled with a variety of unique surreal characters and imagery.
The work of Salvador Dali (1904-1989) is associated with the surrealist movement of the 20th Century. A diverse and multi-talented artist, Dali is considered one of the most collected artists today, and his works offer an incredible opportunity for enormous appreciation in value. In addition to his original works, Dali produced works on paper for reproduction using dry point, etching, woodcut, and lithography. Many of his works are held in prestigious private and public collections world-wide.
