This helmet was initially used by Ken Herock during his career with the Raiders (1963-1967). After Herock concluded his career, the helmet was returned to the equipment manager and was later used by Ken Stabler very early in his career. The rare image shown here is from the 1968 pre-season (Raiders vs. Eagles) and appears to show Ken wearing this exact helmet.

Ken Stabler was drafted by the Raiders in 1968 and performed with the team during pre-season that year. He then went on to play during the regular season with the CFL and the Spokane Shockers (1968-1969).

Residue remains on the back of the helmet from a "1" and "8" on the left and a "6" and "2" on the right. Ken Herock wore #86 leaving evidence of Stabler's #12 also on the back side of the helmet.

"Herock" is also written on the inside of the helmet. Herock played for Tight End for the Raiders from 1963-1967 and helped the Raiders win the AFL title (1967).

The helmet comes directly from Ken Stabler's personal collection.

Ken Stabler, nicknamed "The Snake", spent his legendary career with the Oakland Raiders (1970–1979), Houston Oilers (1980–1981) and New Orleans Saints (1982–1984). He finished his college career at Alabama with a 28–3–2 record as a starter.
