Continental Currency Dollar Coin from 1776. Please see scans regarding condition of the coin.
The Continental Dollars were probably a pattern issue only and never reached general circulation. It was the first silver dollar size coin ever proposed for the United States. The dies were engraved by someone whose initials were E.G.
Notice the 13 circles linked together, each representing a state and the words "we are one." The other side has a good slogan under the sundial, "Mind Your business." A combination of the sun and the sundial and the word Fugio, meaning "I fly," refers to time and therefore tend to business. It's thought that Franklin may have influenced the design and in all probability this coin was responsible for the statement, "not worth a continental."
