Only 317 Survived!: USS Indianapolis (CA-35) LE Hardcover Book. Hand-signed by (5) surviving crew members of the USS Indianapolis with Jim Jarvis, Cleatus Lebow, Edgar Harrell, Harlan Twible and Michael Kuryla Jr.
On July 26, 1945 the world's first operational atomic bomb was delivered to the island of Tinian by the USS Indianapolis. The Indianapolis was then re-ordered to join the USS Idaho at Leyte Gulf in the Philippines to prepare for the invasion of Japan. On July 30, 1945 the USS Indianapolis was hit by 2 out of 6 torpedoes fired by a Japanese Submarine.
Of the 1,196 crew members, about 900 made it into the water 12 minutes before the ship sank. During the 5 days before their rescue the crew suffered constant shark attacks, starvation, thirst and suffering from exposure and their wounds. On the fourth day the crew was accidentally discovered by a Bomber pilot on a routine antisubmarine patrol. Of the 900 who made it into the water, only 317 remained alive.
The autograph includes an official PSA/DNA hologram and matching LOA for authenticity purposes.
