This fight was a rematch, when Ali won the bout and became the heavyweight champion of the world for the first time.

The rematch took place in Lewiston, Maine, at the Central Maine Youth Center. The fight lasted only one round and is one of the most controversial and memorable fights in boxing history. Ali, known for his speed and agility, came out aggressively in the first round, while Liston seemed to struggle to mount any offense.

At around the two-minute mark of the first round, Ali threw a quick right-hand punch that became known as the "phantom punch." It connected with Liston's chin, and Liston went down, falling on his back. The referee, Jersey Joe Walcott, began counting, but Liston seemed to take a longer time to get up, causing confusion and controversy.

Many spectators and analysts debated whether Liston took a dive or if the punch was powerful enough to knock him out. Ultimately, the fight was ruled a knockout victory for Muhammad Ali, with the official time recorded as two minutes and 12 seconds into the first round.
