Peter Max is a prominent American artist known for his colorful and vibrant artwork. He was born on October 19, 1937, in Berlin, Germany, and his family moved to Shanghai, China, during World War II to escape the Holocaust. In 1953, they emigrated to the United States, settling in Brooklyn, New York.
Max's artistic talents emerged at an early age, and he attended the Art Students League of New York and later the Pratt Institute. In the 1960s, he became associated with the counterculture and psychedelic movement, and his unique style, characterized by bold colors, cosmic imagery, and intricate patterns, became iconic and instantly recognizable.
During the 1960s and 1970s, Peter Max gained widespread popularity and achieved immense commercial success. His artwork adorned various mediums, including posters, album covers, book covers, and even the sides of airplanes. He became known for his contributions to pop art and became closely associated with the psychedelic art movement of that era.
Some of his most famous works include "Cosmic Runner," "Blushing Beauty," and "Statue of Liberty." The Statue of Liberty became one of his most iconic subjects, and his version of the Lady Liberty with vibrant colors became synonymous with his name.
The autograph(s) includes a LOA and lifetime authenticity guarantee from Park West Gallery.
