Grover Cleveland "Pete" Alexander, often referred to as "Old Pete," was a legendary American baseball pitcher who is considered one of the greatest pitchers in the history of Major League Baseball. Here are some key details about his life and career:

MLB Career:

Alexander made his MLB debut with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1911. He later played for the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies (again), and St. Louis Cardinals.

He was known for his incredible control and pitching finesse. He had a dominant career, particularly during the "dead-ball era" of baseball, when pitching was more dominant than hitting.

Alexander won the National League Triple Crown for pitchers three times (1915, 1916, and 1920). This means that in those years, he led the NL in wins, strikeouts, and earned run average.

One of his most famous moments came in Game 7 of the 1926 World Series when he was with the St. Louis Cardinals. He came in as a relief pitcher and struck out New York Yankees slugger Tony Lazzeri with the bases loaded to secure the championship for the Cardinals.

Alexander was known for his durability and the number of complete games he pitched during his career.

He had a standout season in 1915 when he recorded 31 wins and an ERA of 1.22 for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Throughout his career, he won a total of 373 games, which ranks third on the all-time wins list for MLB pitchers.

Legacy:

Grover Cleveland Alexander was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1938.

His career was marked by both individual excellence and team success, including winning three World Series championships (1926, 1928, and 1930).

Alexander passed away on November 4, 1950.

He is remembered as one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball history. His career achievements, especially his remarkable pitching statistics and his contributions to multiple championship-winning teams, solidify his status as an iconic figure in the annals of the sport.
