This incredible vintage baseball has been hand-signed by Cy Young (D. 1955, Boston Red Sox, HOF) and displays as a bold single signed baseball.
The ball is also signed by Sam Jones (D. 1971, Chicago Cubs, HOF), and Turk Reilly (D. 1951).
Cy Young, whose real name was Denton True Young, was an American baseball pitcher who is one of the most iconic and dominant pitchers in the history of the MLB.
Young made his MLB debut in 1890 with the Cleveland Spiders in the National League (NL). He went on to have a career that spanned 22 seasons.
He played for several teams during his career, including the Cleveland Spiders, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Naps (later known as the Indians), and Boston Rustlers.
Cy Young was known for his incredible durability and control as a pitcher. He had a powerful fastball and a wide array of pitches.
He is most famous for his longevity and for being one of the earliest pitchers to excel in both the dead-ball era (when pitching was dominant) and the live-ball era (when hitting became more prominent).
Young holds many MLB records that may never be broken, including the record for the most career wins as a pitcher with 511. He also holds the record for the most career innings pitched, complete games, and starts.
In 1901, the Cy Young Award, which is given annually to the best pitcher in each league, was named in his honor. It's one of the most prestigious awards for pitchers in baseball.
Cy Young was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame as part of its inaugural class in 1937.
He had several outstanding seasons, but one of the most remarkable was in 1901 when he won 33 games and had an ERA of 1.62 for the Boston Red Sox.
He passed away on November 4, 1955.
Cy Young is often cited as one of the greatest pitchers in the history of baseball. His records for wins, innings pitched, and complete games are unlikely to ever be surpassed in the modern era of the game. His name is synonymous with excellence and longevity in the world of baseball, and his impact on the sport's history is immeasurable.
