President Andrew Jackson was born of humble origins and orphaned early, he educated himself and was practicing law by the age of 20. Entering the militia, he rose to the rank of general by the age of 21. At New Orleans, General Jackson commanded a ragtag combination of Patriots and pirates, to defeat an overwhelming force of British regulars. Thus bringing the War of 1812 to a rapid close with America again victorious. His popular support and tenacious personality left an indelible impression. After losing to John Quincy Adam's in the disputed election of 1824, he served two terms as our 7th President.
