Lou Gehrig, known as "The Iron Horse," was a legendary first baseman for the New York Yankees whose career spanned from 1923 to 1939. Gehrig was renowned for his durability, playing in 2,130 consecutive games, a record that stood for 56 years. His powerful hitting helped lead the Yankees to six World Series titles, and he was a two-time American League MVP. Gehrig's career was tragically cut short by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which later became known as Lou Gehrig's disease. His farewell speech at Yankee Stadium, where he declared himself "the luckiest man on the face of the Earth," remains one of the most iconic moments in sports history. Gehrig's legacy endures through his remarkable achievements, his sportsmanship, and his courageous battle with ALS.
