Clinton was elected President of the United States in 1992, defeating incumbent George H. W. Bush. At age 46, he was the third-youngest president and the first from the Baby Boomer generation. Ford was the first person appointed to the vice presidency under the terms of the 25th Amendment, and subsequently the only person to date to have served as President of the United States without being elected to executive office.
