The 1987 Indianapolis 500 was the 71st running of the prestigious event, held on May 24, 1987, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race was won by Al Unser Sr., who secured his fourth Indy 500 victory, tying the record held by A.J. Foyt at the time. Unser was not initially slated to race, but he replaced Danny Ongais, who was injured in practice. Despite driving a year-old car, Unser took advantage of other competitors’ mechanical issues, particularly Mario Andretti's, who dominated most of the race but retired due to a faulty valve spring. Unser’s victory, at the age of 47, made him the oldest winner of the race at that time.
The autograph(s) includes an official PSA/DNA hologram and matching LOA for authenticity purposes.
