Willie Mays, nicknamed "The Say Hey Kid," is widely regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. Born on May 6, 1931, in Westfield, Alabama, Mays played the majority of his Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the New York/San Francisco Giants from 1951 to 1972, and briefly with the New York Mets in 1972-1973. He was known for his exceptional all-around abilities, excelling in hitting, fielding, and base running.

Mays was a 24-time All-Star, two-time National League (NL) MVP, and 12-time Gold Glove Award winner. He is particularly famous for "The Catch," a remarkable over-the-shoulder catch during the 1954 World Series. Mays finished his career with 660 home runs, placing him among the all-time leaders in that category.

In 1979, Mays was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Beyond his on-field achievements, he is celebrated for his influence on the game and his role as a pioneer for African American players in MLB.
