The 1928 U.S. $100 Gold Certificate, catalogued as Fr. 2405 and signed by Woods and Mellon, is one of the rarest and most sought-after banknotes among collectors. As the last series of gold certificates issued by the U.S. Treasury, these notes were backed by gold and meant to be used only for bank-to-bank transactions. However, following President Franklin D. Roosevelt's 1933 Executive Order banning private gold ownership, most were redeemed and destroyed, leaving very few in circulation. Today, surviving examples of this $100 Gold Certificate are prized for their historical significance, rarity, and connection to a unique era in American monetary policy.
