Kobe Bryant was an American basketball player widely celebrated as one of the greatest athletes in NBA history. Born on August 23, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bryant was introduced to basketball at an early age by his father, Joe "Jellybean" Bryant, a former NBA player. When Kobe was six, his family moved to Italy, where he gained experience playing basketball in a unique international setting before returning to the U.S. for high school.

Bryant entered the NBA directly from high school in 1996, when he was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets and subsequently traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. Over a 20-season career with the Lakers, Bryant earned five NBA championships, two Finals MVPs, and 18 All-Star selections. Known for his relentless work ethic and "Mamba Mentality," Bryant developed into a dominant scorer and fierce competitor, highlighted by his 81-point game in 2006, the second-highest in NBA history.

Beyond the court, Bryant was involved in numerous business ventures and creative projects, including the 2018 Oscar-winning animated short film Dear Basketball, which he wrote and narrated. Tragically, Bryant's life was cut short on January 26, 2020, when he, his daughter Gianna, and seven others perished in a helicopter crash. His legacy endures through his impact on the game and his inspiration to countless fans and athletes worldwide.
