In 1956 NY Yankee Don Larsen became the first major league pitcher to throw a perfect game in the World Series. In Game Five versus the Brooklyn Dodgers, it took Larsen only 97 pitches to complete the game. Often overlooked Yogi Berra had a very important role in the perfect game, because he called the pitches that where thrown. Yogi Berra was so overcome with excitement that he jumped into Don Larsen's arms after the final out. David Wells had two tenures as a pitcher with the New York Yankees, spanning 1997-1998 and 2002-2003. Wells won the World Series with the Bombers in 1998 and earlier that same year, on May 17 in a game against the Minnesota Twins, he threw the first perfect game by a Yankees pitcher since Don Larsen in the 1956 World Series. David Cone joined the elite club of Major League pitchers to throw a perfect game. On July 18, 1999 against the Montreal Expos, with Don Larsen and Yogi Berra in attendance, David Cone becomes only the 17th pitcher to throw a perfect game. He struck out 10 and it took him only 88 pitches to complete the game. The pitchers and catchers of the only 3 perfect games in Yankees history are all together on this one piece: Joe Girardi, David Cone "PG 7-18-99.", Jorge Posada, David Wells "PG 5-17-98", Yogi Berra and Don Larsen "PG 10-8-56" have each hand signed this 16x20 photograph of them all at the mound during the pre-game ceremonies before the Final Game at Yankee Stadium on September 21st, 2008.
